Whether you are participating in the January Walking Challenge (details coming soon!) or trying to achieve your daily workout milestone, finding ways to pack more walking into your day is a great first step on the road to wellness. The good news is that boosting your step count is one of the easiest workouts to integrate into your average day without requiring a lot of extra time, any equipment, or money. Try these simple tips from Health.com and get moving!

  • Walk to a coworker’s desk to discuss work instead of e-mailing.
  • Use the restroom one floor down or up when in a public building.
  • Avoid elevators and escalators and opt for the stairs.
  • Don’t fight for a parking spot in a crowded lot. Park further away and walk.
  • Take an extra lap around the store while grocery shopping or make your way down aisles that aren’t on your normal shopping route.
  • While waiting for someone else, walk the halls of the building or go for a walk around the perimeter.
  • Do a lap around the mall instead of just hitting your shopping targets.
  • Hide your TV remote so you have to get up to change the channel. Or turn off the TV and go for a walk!
  • Wander around the house while talking on the phone.
  • March in place while doing standstill activities like brushing your teeth.
