On a cold March Saturday morning, 80 volunteers from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, BuildOn, Henry Ford Health Systems, Detroit Bees, Detroit Cristo Rey, Ideal employees and others came out early to volunteer at our very first Merritt Street Clean-Up. Teams were divided and volunteers targeted streets and alleys. Two 30 yard dumpsters were filled, and 200 tires were picked up. Volunteers in Cadillac Urban Gardens unrolled 100 hoses and checked for damaged and organized the shed. Volunteers at Scarcyny Park removed plants and discovered growing lilies. All teams met at Scarcyny Park for tacos from our neighborhood taco truck, Taco Veloz. Thank you to all the volunteers for the tremendous amount of work completed and for joining us! Make sure to check out both gardens’ Facebook page to stay updated on upcoming events!
