On Wednesday June 22nd, Ideal Contracting drove to Fort Wayne, Indiana for their Build-U Intern field trip. The group included eight interns- Chris Kuenzer, Dylan Cook, Dylan Yore, Michael Alberda, Paulina Torres, Riley Norman, Steven Sinn, Tony Saucedo, and Travis George, along with Jon Hautau and Gus Cerku as mentors. The mission of the field trip focused on giving the interns real life exposure to as many aspects of the construction industry as possible.
On Thursday morning, the Build-U Team visited the GM Ft. Wayne Plant, currently the worksite for Barton Malow. The tour commenced with going over the site’s specific safety procedures training. To follow, the team traveled to a Light Weight Style Building where the interns saw an Air Rotation Unit. After the Build-U Interns observed the process of placing concrete – something they have not done yet. Impressed, many members of the Build-U Team enjoyed learning about all of the different steps that go into placing concrete.
Next, the team went to a rooftop where they examined an air handling unit, learning more about the purpose it serves. Concluding the tour shortly after lunch, the team returned to Detroit on Friday. After speaking with some of the interns, it is safe to say that they all enjoyed this learning experience. Chris Kuenzer and his fellow team members shared, “I would like to thank Yesi, Alex, Jon, Gus, Glenn and Derek for setting the trip up for us. I had a great time, and I’m already looking forward to the next site visit at the Little Caesar’s Arena!”
