Construction has begun on the new Wayne State Mike llitch School of Business, named for the late Red Wings and Tigers owner, Mike Ilitch. A gift of $40M from Mike and Marian Ilitch has made the new facility possible.

The business school is located a half mile south of Wayne State University’s campus, at the corner of Woodward Avenue and Temple Street, neighboring the new Little Caesars Arena. It will have a glass façade facing Woodward, which adds a unique look to the school.

Ideal Contracting was awarded the structural steel package on this project and began erection of the four-story building at the beginning of the month.  By the next phase of the project, scheduled for June 2017, Ideal Contracting will have procured and erected about 1,200 tons of structural steel and metal decking. To date, they have erected 500 tons of steel in a short period of time.

The small 1.3 acre footprint created some challenges for the project team which have been overcome by precise planning of schedule and delivery. To minimize the amount of field labor on site, every detail of the building was carefully planned. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to stay up-to-date on this project and many more.
