Ideal Steel’s Detroit Cristo Rey intern, Christian Perales, received the Ric Gonzalez Memorial Foundation Scholarship during the Thirteenth Annual Bocce Tournament on November 11th. Each year, the Ric Gonzalez Foundation offers scholarships to Hispanic high school seniors residing in the Southeast Michigan area.

A senior at Detroit Cristo Rey High School, Christian has successfully balanced his academics with extracurricular activities as he prepares for college. With a 3.9 GPA, Christian participates and excels on his high school’s basketball, baseball, and soccer teams.

Christian also makes time in his busy schedule to volunteer at community events around the Southwest Detroit neighborhood. A regular volunteer at the Cadillac Urban Gardens on Merritt Street, he has also taken part in Motor City Makeover, teamGM Cares Week, and has worked with the non-profit, Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision.

While Christian has become a valuable member of the Steel team, he hopes to attend Dartmouth College in Fall 2018 and pursue a Business degree.
