Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision

Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision (SDEV) is Ideal’s lead non-profit partner in developing community leaders and creating productive community spaces. Their mission is to improve the environment and strengthen Southwest Detroit economy. SDEV works together with residents, community organizations, government agencies, schools, businesses, and industries to combat environmental issues, including indoor and outdoor air quality, blight, and incompatible land use. SDEV is funded through memberships, individual and corporate donations, and grants. SDEV’s work would not be possible without the dedication of their community of volunteers.

Southwest Detroit Business Association

The Southwest Detroit Business Association (SDBA) fosters innovation, drive, and commitment in a vibrant business district. SDBA works with investors, entrepreneurs, customers, and neighbors to capitalize on Southwest Detroit’s competitive advantage. They support our community’s vision for a healthy, vibrant neighborhood. The association is a coalition of businesses and community interests committed to facilitating the continuation and enhancement of a stable, economically healthy Southwest Detroit. They accomplish this by employing strategies that support existing business and industrial enterprises, enhance the climate for public and private investment and economic growth, and act as a vehicle for cooperative ventures that support economic development in Southwest Detroit.

The Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation

The Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation’s (DHDC) mission is create to life-changing opportunities for youth and their families. They are committed to meeting the needs of our community by providing quality, innovative and culturally appropriate services, primarily in Southwest Detroit.

DHDC’s Robotics Engineering Center of Detroit opened in January 2015 and serves over fifthteen high schools and middle schools in the Southwest Detroit community. Students learn from and play with DHDC staff and professional engineers and volunteers from General Motors who donate their time to work with students to help design and build the sophisticated competition robots. This gives students an insider’s view of a career in science, engineering and technology not possible in a normal classroom setting.

Holy Redeemer Grade School

Holy Redeemer Grade School is an urban Catholic grade school, fully accredited by the Michigan Non-Public School Accrediting Association. They offer an alternative educational setting, which will enhance the spiritual life of its students as well as their academic pursuits. As a Catholic school, Holy Redeemer recognizes and strives to fulfill the needs of the student: spiritual, intellectual, emotional and physical. It endeavors to prepare students to grow into mature, productive and compassionate citizens of our Church and our world.

Detroit Cristo Rey High School

Detroit Cristo Rey High School provides excellent college-preparatory Catholic high school education, in the Cristo Rey Model, to students from economically disadvantaged families in Detroit. The school emphasizes faith, morals and service to the community. Through its work-study program, the school fosters skills and attitudes important in the workplace, such as responsibility, determination, and respect for self and others.

CHASS Center

The Community Health and Social Services (CHASS) Center, Inc. is a community-based, nonprofit organization formed to develop, promote, and provide comprehensive, accessible and affordable quality primary health care and support services to all residents of the community, with special emphasis on the underserved African-American and Latino population. CHASS is committed to the overall well-being of the community.
